Other Forms of Therapy
Prolonged Exposure Therapy
This joins cognitive talk therapy with the re-living of a traumatic experience and or exposure to things that start a specific response but are not troubling. Often times the therapist may begin by reassuring the person to revisits the trauma in their mind and share what they have gone through. Also, the therapist may give homework where they demand the person to face a situation or thing that would get them to distress, beginning with something that likely will only cause minor pain and working up to things that will create a lot of trouble. This stepping method helps the person grow their tolerance and decreases the anxiety associated with each event or experience.
Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing EMDR therapy.
This is a kind of psychotherapy where the clinician requires the person to think about a traumatic experience while watching an object or the clinician’s hand move from the right to the left.
